NEW CANAAN – The Staples Wreckers boys basketball team prevailed over the New Canaan Rams Tuesday. An 11-3 run at the start of the second half gave the Wreckers some breathing room after slugging it out in the first half, which ended at 18 all.
The Wreckers seemed to be invigorated in the second half by their personal cheering section, which included the Staples JV team and the injured varsity players, all of whom made the trip to New Canaan. The 11-3 wave allowed the Wreckers to hang on for a final of 54-47.
With back-to-back wins, the Wreckers have some momentum on their side, which they will need. Friday at 7 p.m. at home the Wreckers face the 5-1 Greenwich Cardinals, who haven’t lost in nearly a month.
