WESTPORT — The No. 2 Staples football team put together a dominant effort in the state Class LL quarterfinals Tuesday, clobbering No. 7 Manchester 42-6.

With the playoff victory, the Wreckers advance to Sunday’s semifinals — a rematch with FCIAC foe No. 3 Greenwich, who Staples blanked 27-0 on Thanksgiving Day. They host the showdown starting at 12:30 p.m.

In the win over Manchester, quarterback Nick Weil completed nine of 18 pass attempts for 155 yards and a trio of touchdowns. Weil connected with Shane Sandrew (six catches for 99 yards) for a pair of scores and Nathan Smith (three receptions for 56 yards) for a TD. Anthony Armentano rushed nine times for 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
