FAIRFIELD — Execution off a pair of corner kicks provided the Staples High girls soccer team with all the offense it needed in a 3-1 victory over Greenwich in Tuesday’s FCIAC Tournament semifinals at neutral site Fairfield Warde.

The No. 3 Wreckers will face No. 1 St. Joseph at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in the final at Wilton High School.

The Wreckers will look to avenge their only loss of the regular slate, a 2-1 setback to St. Joe’s Cadets in Trumbull on Oct. 22, with the conference crown on the line.

Coach Barry Beattie’s Wreckers won last year’s title game 1-0 over Wilton.

Staples shook off a strong start from Greenwich and opened the scoring when Sami DeWitt netted a powerful header from an Annabel Edwards corner kick for a 1-0 halftime lead.

Very early in the second half, Natalie Chudowsky delivered a corner and DeWitt towered above the defenders to score her second header of the game.

Staples remained on top and made it 3-0 with a defense-splitting pass from Chudowsky to put Edwards through on goal. Edwards chipped a shot over the goalkeeper from 25 yards out for the 3-0 cushion.

Ali Penella scored late for Greenwich.
