DARIEN–Staples Wreckers girls golf began the season on Tuesday with a visit to Wee Burn Country Club and lost a squeaker, 196-197, to the Darien Blue Wave. The Wreckers had a standout performance as junior Lucy Hill fired a 44 and earned medalist honors.
On Wednesday, the Wreckers went to Smith Richardson Golf Course to take on Fairfield Ludlowe. Staples junior captain Eliza Wadley co-medaled with Falcon Tatum Reilley, carding a 48 in a 210-203 defeat.
Staples will have a break from competition during the spring recess and will return to action Tuesday, April 21 at Trumbull; tee off is at 3:15 p.m. The Wreckers have their first home action Wednesday, April 22 when they have a rematch with Ludlowe at Longshore Golf Course at 3 p.m. That is the first of back-to-back home contests as Fairfield Warde visits the next day, also at 3.
Staples Coach Patty Kondub is confident in her team getting some better scores when play resumes.
“I guarantee more Wreckers will shoot in the 40s when we return from break. We had many bad bounces that kept too many balls off the fairway,” Kondub said.

Best os luck for a swinging season!
