WESTPORT — Staples girls basketball team jumped to a commanding first-half lead en route to a 48-30 win over Wilton on Friday night.

Staples improved to 6-6 overall and 5-2 in FCIAC play; the Warriors fell to 3-8 (2-5).

The Wreckers led 20-9 after one quarter of play and doubled up their visiting counterparts 30-15 at the half. 

Staples held Wilton to just three third-quarter points and took a 42-18 advantage into the fourth.

Chloe Smith scored 10 points, Freya Harvey (who hit a pair of 3-pointers) and Marley Belzer both had eight, Addie Talbott seven and Ella Harrington six.

Staples visits Fairfield Warde (10-2, 6-1 in the FCIAC) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.)
