A weekend trip to the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa., may not have yielded wins but it did provide some stellar competition and a great experience, as always, for the Staples field hockey team.

The Wreckers, ranked No. 22 in the MAX Field Hockey National Rankings after the first week of the campaign, pushed No. 15 Warwick of Lititz, Pa. in a 2-1 setback on Sunday.

“We created the better opportunities during the game but were unable to convert,” said Staples Coach Ian Tapsall, whose squad outshot Warwick 10-5.

Oakley Wilson scored the Wrecker goal, assisted by Ryan McGrath.

On Saturday, Staples fell 5-1 to No. 7 West Essex of Caldwell, N.J. Sloan Dearborn was assisted by Daisy Hackett. Staples goalie Scarlett Shanon made 10 saves.

The Wreckers, off to a 3-0 start against Connecticut teams, are back at it Wednesday with a visit to Danbury at 3:45 p.m. The next home matchup is Friday when New Canaan visits Ginny Parke Field at 4 p.m.
