FAIRFIELD–Staples boys tennis racked up three straight victories last week as the Wreckers edged host Fairfield Warde 4-3 on Tuesday, defeated visiting Wilton 5-2 on Wednesday and topped host Fairfield Ludlowe 6-1 Thursday to improve to 6-3 this spring.
The Wreckers were involved in four consecutive 4-3 decisions, capped by the Warde clash, winning two of those.
Against Warde, No. 3 singles player Tyler Gorin won 6-0, 6-0 and all three doubles tandems came out on top:
No. 1 team of Sebastian Elizondo and Andrew Ridloff came back to win in three sets, 5-7, 6-0, 6-0; No. 2 Kieran Ananad and Jonny Greenspan won 6-1, 6-0; and No. 3 Micah Turner and Nick Trinchi won 6-2, 6-2.
In the Wilton match, No. 1 Alekos Vergakis won 6-0, 6-0; No. 3 Gorin won 6-3, 6-2; and
No. 4 Beckett Frey prevailed 6-2, 7-5.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Elizondo and Ridloff came out on top 6-4, 6-3 and No. 2 Anand and Greenspan won 6-3, 6-1.
The Ludlowe match featured wins by No. 2 Robert Jacob, 6-1, 6-1; No. 3 Jack McAuley 7-5, 6-1; and No, 4 Gorin 6-2, 6-3. It was a Staples sweep in doubles play with No. 1 Elizondo and Ridloff winning 6-4, 7-6; No. 2 Anand and Greenspan winning 6-1, 6-0; and No. 3 Turner and Trnichi cruising 6-0, 6-0.
The Wreckers visit Bridgeport Central today at 4 p.m. and host Trumbull Tuesday at 4.
