WESTPORT — The Staples High School boys swim team made waves at the Class LL state championships Sunday, with individual swimmers taking home medals and chalking up personal bests during the competition in West Hartford.

Junior Riley Twiss won a gold medal and set a school record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.58. He also medaled in the 200 individual medley, finishing fifth.

Junior Josh Tanksley placed seventh in the 200 freestyle; junior Andrew Berkowitz, finished ninth in both the 100 and 200 freestyles, his lifetime bests in both events, and junior Peter Meehan, swam a lifetime best in the 100 breaststroke with the fifth fastest time of the meet.

Joining Twiss, Berkowitz and Meehan in qualifying for the State Open meet was senior Jacob Lee in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
