WESTPORT — Coach Pete Caligiure’s Staples boys golf team is off to a winning start for the new season, claiming four wins in the first six matches.

Earlier this week, the Wreckers notched a 156-169 win over host Danbury at Richter Park Golf Course on Tuesday, and then beat Westhill, 154-169, Wednesday at E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course in Stamford.

In the win over Danbury, the Wreckers were led by junior Gus Palmer who shot 37. Caligiure described that victory as a good win on a tough course.

When the Wreckers won at Westhill, medalist was junior George Targowski with an even par 36. Junior Tommy Riley had 38 and freshman Jordan Benaderet also had a 38.

“We have a great group of young men who are working really hard. We’re working hard to have a successful season and go deep into the playoffs,” said Caligiure.

The team is led by senior captain Sawyer Dalzell and junior Phillip Sullivan.

Staples visits New Canaan at 3 p.m. Monday, and returns to Longshore Country Club on Wednesday with a match against Stamford teeing off at 3:15 p.m. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest updates.)
