WESTPORT — Both Staples High tennis teams advanced to state semifinal playoff action with victories Tuesday.

Boys topple Trumbull

The Wreckers boys, seeded fifth in the Class LL State Tournament bracket, defeated No. 13 Trumbull, 6-1, in the quarterfinals at home Tuesday.

Staples will visit top-seed Fairfield Prep in the semifinals at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Girls beat Maloney

The No. 11 girls tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win at No. 3 Maloney in the Class LL State Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday.

With the win the Wreckers travel to No. 2 South Windsor for a semifinal-round matchup at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“The girls played really well today and are looking forward to tomorrow against South Windsor. Semifinals here we come,” Coach Jena Wider said.
