STAMFORD — The Staples High boys basketball team polished off an impressive 15-5 regular season with a decisive victory, defeating host Westhill, 65-41, Wednesday — gaining momentum for FCIAC Tournament play.

The Wreckers had a trio of players in double figures as Nick Sikorski scored 15, Sam Clachko dropped in 13 and Charlie Bowman logged 11. Mason Tobias added nine for the Wreckers.

Staples, 11-4 in FCIAC play, earns the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 Wilton (10-5 in conference action) in the tournament quarterfinals on Saturday. The game will take place at 4 p.m. at neutral site Fairfield Warde.

In their regular season contest, Staples came from behind and edged Wilton 76-68 in a thriller on Jan. 30.

In the other game on the Staples’ side of the tourney bracket, No. 1 Ridgefield faces No. 8 Fairfield Ludlowe at 6 p.m. Saturday,

The other tourney games feature No. 2 Trumbull versus No. 7 Warde at 2 p.m. and No. 3 Stamford against No. 6 Danbury at noon. All games Saturday at Warde. (Game schedules are subject to change; click for the latest CIAC updates.).
