WESTPORT — The Staples High field hockey team, one of the top-ranked squads in the region, is poised to get back at it against FCIAC foes this fall.

Staples boasts college commits and a strong supporting cast coming off an 11-win season last year.

Senior captain Caroline Roschen (2024 Franklin and Marshall), junior captain Sofia Fidalgo (2025 Division I Princeton, U.S. U16 team member), junior Tyla Ozgen (2025 Division I Stanford) and junior Emma Larit (2025 Division I UConn) are back to lead the way for Coach Ian Tapsall’s team.

The Wreckers look forward to developing chemistry between the returning standouts and roster newcomers.

Staples, ranked third in the Max Field Hockey Northeast Region pre-season rankings, is behind only Greenwich Academy and FCIAC rival and top-ranked Darien. Tapsall noted that Darien is favored to win the FCIAC and state tournaments.

The Wreckers don’t have to think about Darien until October with the teams set to match up in Darien on Oct. 2 at 4 p.m.

Staples visits Trumbull at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, and is home Monday, Sept. 11, when St. Joseph visits at 4 o’clock.
