Early Goals Propel Wreckers Boys Soccer to Opening Win

The Staples boys soccer team scored twice in the first seven minutes Friday, at Loeffler Field. The goals stunned Ridgefield, and paved the way for the Wreckers’ 5-0 win on opening day of the FCIAC season.

Several hundred fans packed The Hill. The first two tallies – a banger by Murilo Moreno off the far post (after Jaden Mueller won a ball at midfield) and a header by Reese Watkins off Jack Foster’s long free kick – set off wild celebrations.

Dylan Hoke’s blast made it 3-0 before halftime, on Marius Ekeberg’s assist. Ryan Thomas assisted on the final two goals, by Matt Shackelford and Mueller.

Stellar goalkeeping by Jacob Greenberger, and solid defense from Jackson Hochhauser, Bruno Guiduli, Hunter Smith and Foster, secured the win.

The Wreckers’ next match is Tuesday at New Canaan. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m.
