HAMDEN–Star Wreckers football quarterback Caleb Smith was inducted into the Fairfield County Gridiron Hall of Fame with 12 other players and coaches at the Hall of Fame banquet in Hamden last week.

A 2024 Staples graduate, Smith was the youngest inductee in this year’s class. He was cited for quarterbacking the 2023 Wreckers to their first state championship in over a decade. Smith’s team owned the #1 ranking in the State.

In 2023, Smith was named the Connecticut Football Player of the Year. That honor was well deserved; Smith passed for 5,138 yards and 49 touchdowns, rushed for 2,307 yards and 43 touchdowns in his career. He still holds seven Staples High School passing records.

In addition to his outstanding football career, Smith was All-American and All-State defenseman in lacrosse, a captain of the basketball team and a Connecticut Scholar Athlete.  After playing quarterback at UConn his freshman year, Smith transferred to Boston University this year to play NCAA Division 1 lacrosse and study finance.
