WESTPORT–Soccer is a beautiful – but frustrating – game.

Despite dominating 17-1 in shots, the Staples boys team drew 0-0 with Wilton Tuesday at Wakeman Field. It was the third tie of the season for the Wreckers. They are unbeaten, with three wins, and have allowed only one goal (a penalty kick) all year.

Staples controlled long swaths of the game, moving the ball with confidence and control. Keeper Jacob Greenberger, and defenders Bruno Guiduli, Jackson Hochhauser, Hunter Smith, Jack Foster and Matthew Genser kept the visitors far from the goal most of the time.

Dylan Hoke, Caleb Tobias, Jaden Mueller, Avery Mueller and Tim Liakh won balls at midfield, then moved forward with slicing passes and deft touches. Murilo Moreno, Reese Watkins, Will Adams and Matthew Jordan made penetrating runs, and delivered solid service. But Staples could not solve the Warriors’ defense, and their tall keeper made several saves on high balls.

The Wreckers’ next test is a big one. They travel to Darien on Friday, for a 4 p.m. match against a surging Blue Wave side. They tied their first match, then reeled off five wins in a row.
