The Staples High boys’ basketball team went on the road and defeated South-West Conference opponent Stratford 66-30 in the season opener on Thursday night.

Staples had a balanced scoring attack as Cody Sale dropped in 14 points, Sam Clachko scored a dozen, Chris Zajac dropped in 11 points to go along with eight rebounds, and Adam Udell contributed nine points, six assists and four steals.
The Wreckers close out the calendar year and begin the New Year with two more contests against SWC foes. They host Pomperaug of Southbury Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. and visit Newtown Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. Then it’s on to FCIAC battles beginning with a Friday, Jan. 6, trip to Ridgefield, also at 7.
