Editor’s note: following is an opinion submitted by Westport resident Bobbi Essagoff.
I am honored to endorse Sal Liccione for re-election to Westport’s RTM, District 9. Sal stands out for his integrity and his hands-on approach to representing our community.
Sal is capable, diligent, and reliable. Living in the heart of downtown, he’s often seen walking or biking, talking with shopkeepers and residents. He listens carefully and discusses issues with constituents before casting his vote — exactly what an RTM member should do.
Sal also speaks truth to power. In 2022, he was the only RTM member to vote “no” on The Hamlet project — not because it was the easy choice, but because it was the right one. He recognized that the lack of on-site affordable housing, public safety concerns, and increased traffic were not in Westport’s best interest. He stood up to peer pressure and voted with courage and conviction for the people of District 9 and for all of Westport.
The RTM is the legislative body for our town, and we need independent, thoughtful voices like Sal’s. He is approachable, responsive, and deeply committed to serving his constituents.
Sal Liccione is exactly the kind of representative Westport needs.
Local politics directly impact our daily lives. Please make your voice heard — vote early beginning October 20 at Town Hall or on Election Day, November 4, at your district polling place.

Beautifully expressed.
And my sentiments exactly.
Sal has to be the most accessible elected official I have ever witnessed. And I don’t just mean email/text stuff. Anybody can do that. Recently, I was cutting through a downtown ally by Sal’s house when a greeting came from his open first floor window. It was Sal.
There was a nice bench beneath the window so I sat down and we talked for a while about a wide range of topics – all Westport related. There’s little that escapes Sal’s attention.
At some point in our conversation I remember thinking here I am sitting on a bench in my neighborhood on a warm fall evening chatting and laughing with my RTM rep through his window – because he dropped whatever he was doing to ask me how I was doing. It was a simple thing, of course. But it reminded me of all the conversations we’ve had though the years. And all the times Sal has stepped in to help. I absolutely endorse him.
💯
Sal is the most accessible, caring, 24/7 elected representative I know, He cares about his constituents and advocates fiercely for them. He speaks truth to power when no one else does. Hands down, he gets my vote.
Sal Liccione is known in Westport’s District 9 as a kind, accessible, and deeply engaged community member. He’s regularly seen walking around downtown, speaking with residents, listening to concerns, and attending local events. Sal makes himself easily reachable and responds quickly to constituent questions, often going out of his way to help. His friendly, down-to-earth approach and consistent presence reflect a strong commitment to serving the people of Westport with compassion and integrity. If Sal was in my district, I would be voting for him!
I couldn’t agree more. Sal is just what an RTMer should be. He’s passionate, well-informed, caring and always on the job. We’re lucky to have him in town government.
If we had to pay Sal for the value he brings to Westport, it would be a high price! He loves our town and is an outstanding representative for the merchants and the people, truly listening to his constituents and showing up for them. Incredibly hard working, committed, knowledgeable and with a heart of gold.
I’m proud to know Sal. He’s a committed and informed public servant who has all of Westport in mind when he votes.
Looks like Sal is a town uniter.
