Editor’s note: following is an opinion submitted by Westporter Debra Levin.
Two years ago, I was one of the many residents who opened their door when David Rosenwaks was canvassing for RTM of District 6. He spent 20 minutes on my front steps listening to my concerns and engaging in an open, honest conversation. One of David’s greatest strengths is how he listens to his constituents and votes with their voices in mind. He was a vocal advocate and cast an important vote when the town tried to turn Jesup Green into a parking lot. David represented our wishes and voted to have Jesup Green remain an open space for the residents of our town.
I applaud David’s desire to have more transparency in our town government. I was one of many parents who attended the Board of Education’s 13-hour meeting at Town Hall concerning the non-renewal of the tennis and soccer coaches contracts. The dismissive attitude toward parents’ and students’ right to speak was disgraceful. The residents of Westport deserve to be heard and also to be given clear reasons why decisions are made. I am confident that David will see that this happens.
Westport is an amazing community. David will work to make town governance less polarizing and divisive. He will work to make it a place where our voices—and all voices—are heard.
In my view, David Rosenwaks is the person to “unite longtime residents and newcomers and strengthen the ties that hold Westport together.” I hope you agree.
