WESTPORT — The last day of early voting this election season is today (Sunday, Nov. 3), and while pausing only on Monday, balloting resumes Tuesday for the climactic “Election Day” to decide races for seats in the state’s General Assembly, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and the presidency.

Voting is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Sunday in the auditorium of Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave.

Voting on Election Day, Tuesday, will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the town’s usual five polling stations. For a list of the polling stations and a map of local voting districts, click here

During the two-week early voting period, nearly 4,700 Westport voters had cast ballots as of Oct. 29, according to figures provided by the Secretary of the State’s Office.

The political party affiliations of those voters was 2,470 Democrats, 782 Republicans, 1,400 unaffiliated and 33 Independents, according to those figures.

While latest data on the overall number of voters registered in Westport this year was not available, for the 2023 election there were 21,551 eligible to vote locally with Democrats holding a commanding advantage — 9,218 Democrats, 3,946 Republicans, 8,195 unaffiliated and 192 other political affiliations.

This year is the first time that Connecticut voters are eligible to cast ballots in advance of a general Election Day, under a change approved to the state Constitution by voters in 2022. Voters in the state’s presidential and congressional primaries earlier this year also were able to take advantage of early-voting periods, although the number of days allotted was shorter than for the Nov. 5 general election.

And, speaking of constitutional questions on the ballot, voters across the state are being asked to decide on a proposal to lift restrictions on use of absentee ballots, or “no excuse” absentee voting. The ballot question reads: “Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to allow each voter to vote by absentee ballot?”
