WESTPORT–Dog lovers and car lovers are invited to a car show and demonstration of the Westport Police K-9 unit and more on Sunday morning at the Westport/Saugatuck Metro North Railroad station, 45 Railroad Place.
Cars & Coffee, presented by BMW of Bridgeport to benefit the K-9 unit, will take place in parking lots 1 and 2 on the Park Street side of the station. The event, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., includes auto-related vendors and coffee donated by Sound Coffees of Bridgeport.
All proceeds from the $10 entry fee and other donations will go to the Westport Police Department K-9 unit, according to Mauro Motors BMW of Bridgeport.
Organizers expect a lively event. While they expected about 700 responses, more than 2,000 people had sent RSVPs by early this week, the automotive company said in an announcement.
The Westport Police Department’s K-9 unit consists of two handlers and three dogs. Corporal James Loomer handles Brutte, a Belgian Malinois certified in patrol techniques and narcotics detection, and Ambo, a Labrador retriever certified in explosives detection. Corporal David Scinto handles Grizz, a Belgian Malinois-German shepherd mix.
