WESTPORT — Ida didn’t pull her punches.
The second tropical storm to sweep through town in less than two weeks, Ida packed high winds and drenching rain that triggered flooding and power outages overnight Wednesday.
As the onslaught eased early Thursday, 201 customers in Westport — about 1.59 percent of the total — were reported to have no power as of 5 a.m., according to Eversource.
The National Weather Service estimated at early Thursday that 5 to 8.5 inches of rain fell across on the region.
The deluges left streets impassable all over town, with downed tree limbs and wind-blown debris adding to the obstructions.
Weathering Ida ‘pretty well’
Police Lt. David Wolf, the department spokesman, said early Thursday the town “faired pretty well” during the storm,.
By about 6 a.m., most previously flooded roadways were passable and the railroad viaducts were clear, he said.
Remaining trouble spots included Greens Farms at Center Street and 405 Greens Farms Road. Both were closed and taped off, he said.

Metro-North has suspended rail service because of the “heavy rainfall and flooding across the region.”
A “flood warning” remains in effect for Westport at 5 a.m. Thursday.
But the National Weather Service forecasts there will be no more rain and the wind should die down later this morning.
Sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s are predicted to prevail most of the day.
Problems reported across town during the height of the storm:
- Post Road East, Bay Street, Myrtle Avenue and Violet Lane were all flooded.
- Post Road East also was flooded near the Sherwood Island Connector, Morningside Drive, and near the Interstate-95 overpass west of the Fairfield border.
- Deadman’s Brook overflowed onto Violet Lane.
- Park Street and Charles Street in Saugatuck were blocked by water as well.
- Imperial Avenue was flooded near Ridge Drive.
- Greens Farms Road was impassable near New Creek Road, and at Center Street, where Muddy Brook also jumped its banks.
- A large planter sat in the middle of Main Street downtown.
