WESTPORT — Three occupants of two vehicles that collided on Interstate 95 and tumbled from the highway down an embankment Friday were rescued from the wreckage by firefighters.

The vehicles crashed shortly after 6 p.m. Friday on a local stretch of I-95 northbound, between Exits 17 and 18, according to the Westport Fire Department’s Facebook page.

When the first fire crews arrived on the scene, they found an SUV and sedan involved in the crash had careened off the road, with the sedan overturning on its side.

Firefighters helped three occupants get out of the two vehicles, and they were transported to a hospital by Westport EMS with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report. The accident is being investigated by State Police.
