WESTPORT–Police stopped a stolen BMW X4 on Interstate 95 after popping its tires on the Sherwood Island Connector. The police report that they arrested one of three people who ran from the car.
Anthony Britt, 30, of Stamford, was tracked from the car by a police dog at about 4 a.m. Saturday, police said.
When the car drove into Westport, it was identified as a BMW stolen from a New Jersey home the day before. Once police received the alert, an officer located the car and followed it through several streets in the Compo Beach area.
“Officers began to set a perimeter around the area and were able to successfully deploy a Stop Stick tire deflation device on the Sherwood Island Connector at the Interstate 95 southbound ramp at Exit 18,” police said in an announcement.
Police followed the car, which made it to near exit 6 before becoming too disabled to continue. Three people, including Britt, ran from the car. The other two have not been caught, but the investigation continues.
Britt was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle (first offense), a felony. He was released without bail and is due in Superior Court in Stamford on June 16.
