WESTPORT — A smoky fire at a Silver Brook Road home was extinguished by firefighters Friday evening.

After receiving the first report of a structure fire shortly after 5:15 p.m. Friday, four fire engines, a rescue truck and the shift commander were dispatched to the scene, according to a report by Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey Gootman.

Firefighters discovered a fire burning between the home’s basement ceiling and first floor, the report says. Crews opened ceilings and floors to access and extinguish the fire.

No injuries to the home’s occupants or firefighters were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Additional support was provided by a ladder truck from Wilton and an engine from Norwalk dispatched to the scene, while fire crews from Fairfield, Norwalk and Weston fire provided backup coverage for the rest of town.

Police and Westport EMS units also responded to the scene.
