WESTPORT — A second man has been charged with a series of thefts from vehicles in the Compo area, as well as stealing a car from town, late last year.

Edwin Cordero, 20, of Stratford, was taken into custody Tuesday, police said, and faces charges of five counts of third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny and four counts of sixth-degree larceny.

Another Stratford resident, 21-year-old Christopher Mulkern, was charged last month in connection with the incidents.

The local burglaries were reported to police in the early-morning hours of last Nov. 30.

Cordero and his accomplice were identified as suspects in the case after their arrest Dec. 2 by Stratford police, according to the report.

Cordero was in possession of property stolen from one of the cars, police said, and after executing a search warrant, additional evidence linking him to the series of thefts was uncovered, police said.

Additional evidence linked Cordero and his accomplice to the theft of a car from Westport last Oct. 6, according to the report.

Cordero was held on $200,000 bond and arraigned later Tuesday at Superior Court in Stamford.
