WESTPORT — Three spent bullet casings have been recovered on Sunrise Road by police investigating reports of gun shots fired from a vehicle driving through the Saugatuck area Tuesday night.
Audio of 10 gun shots, recorded by an internal surveillance device at a nearby business, also has been provided to police, Lt. Eric Woods, the police spokesman, told the Westport Journal in a Thursday update on the investigation.
The incident took place about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday when the emergency dispatch center began receiving “911” calls reporting “multiple” shots fired in the area of Saugatuck Avenue and Franklin Street police said.
Officers dispatched to the area were told by witnesses they heard gunfire coming from a “nondescript” white vehicle traveling north on Franklin Street, then north on Saugatuck Avenue and turning west on Sunrise Road, according to initial reports.
As of Thursday morning, Woods said, the vehicle or suspects linked to the incident had not been identified.
He also said police have found no evidence so far that anyone or anything was struck by gunfire.
Police still are asking the public to report any information related to the incident.
Saugatuck area residents are asked to review surveillance camera footage and to report any suspicious activity to: Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 203-341-6080, the police tip line at 203-520-3831, or Detective John Lauria (dlauria@westportct.gov).
