WESTPORT — Traffic flow has been restored in the Saugatuck area by 5 p.m, Monday, police report, after a gas line rupture in the morning forced traffic to be rerouted from major neighborhood streets throughout most of the day.

The rupture, which took place about 9:30 a.m. Monday, forced closure of Riverside and Saugatuck avenues, and nearby streets, as construction crews were called to the site to repair the damage.

By 5 p.m., Riverside Avenue between Bridge Street and Saugatuck Avenue — the last of the detours — reopened to traffic.

About two hours earlier, Saugatuck Avenue was reopened, police said.

Also, repair work by that time had allowed partial reopening of Riverside Avenue between Saugatuck Avenue and Sylvan Road South.
