WESTPORT – Police and fire officials say Riverside Avenue between Sylvan Road South and Treadwell Avenue as reopened after a gas main break that cause traffic to be rerouted throughout much of the day.

At about 11:30 a.m. the fire department issued an alert on the official department Facebook account that the area was being shut down due to a gas line break.
“Emergency crews are on scene, and repair work is underway,” the alert said. “Please avoid the area and use alternate routes.”
Fire officials stood by as crews fixed the main and patched the asphalt. Roads in the area were reopened around the evening rush hour.
Traffic advisories are in effect in the downtown area for much of the weekend as the annual Yankee Doodle Fair gets underway and a planned protest at 11 a.m. on Saturday on the Ruth Steinkraus Cohen Memorial Bridge is likely to slow traffic in the area.

This may have been today’s problem BUT, Riverside has been a nightmare for the last 3 plus weeks.
Today was not much different..
eternal roadwork which never seems to end.
It’s tiresome and annoying..
wish we could know when this “phase” will end.
