WESTPORT — A disturbance among diners at a Post Road East restaurant earlier this month resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old woman, police said.

Melysa Smith, of Westport, was charged Jan. 15 with second-degree breach of peace and third-degree assault on an elderly person.

Police were called to Sakura restaurant, 680 Post Road East, on Jan. 15 to investigate the report of a physical altercation between customers.

When a group of diners, who appeared to be intoxicated, became loud and unruly, another customer having dinner with her family — identified as Melysa Smith — asked them “to stop cursing and being disruptive,” according to the report.

After the group left the restaurant, police said Smith followed them into the parking lot, where an argument erupted.

When a 62-year-old woman “got into [Smith’s] face” during the dispute, Smith “allegedly grabbed her hair, causing the complainant to fall down and complain of injuries,” according to the report.

Smith was arrested and released after posting $5,000 bond. She is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 19 at state Superior Court.
