WESTPORT — A New York teen, stopped while driving through town as police investigated another stolen car incident, was charged with possession of weapons in a motor vehicle.

Ahmand Tillery, 19, of Roosevelt, N.Y., was charged about 3:15 a.m. July 6 as Westport police, joined by Fairfield officers and state troopers, searched the area of Turkey Hill Road South and Morningside Drive South for “four youths who had fled on foot from a stolen vehicle,” according to the report. The car became disabled after police placed “stop sticks” in the roadway.

It was the kind of incident highlighted by Police Chief Foti Koskinas in recent remarks to TEAM Westport, citing the rising number of reports involving motor vehicle theft — particularly by juveniles — that require police response.

While investigating the July 6 stolen car report, police stopped what was described as a “suspicious” vehicle occupied by four New York juveniles, according to the report.

The teens told officers they “were looking for a friend,” police said.

Officers, according to the report, advised one of the teens — identified as Tillery — they “did not believe many of his answers” and suspected the teens “were in the area to pick up people involved in the stolen vehicle” incident.

When Tillery was asked if there were any weapons in the car, he reportedly acknowledged brass knuckles were in the vehicle.

Tillery was taken into custody and brought to Police Department headquarters, where he was formally charged. He was released after posting $500 bond, and was scheduled for a July 14 arraignment at state Superior Court in Stamford.

No other charges were filed in connection with the incident.
