WESTPORT — A 36-year-old man is charged with forgery for allegedly selling fake Texas license plates and registration documents to an undercover police detective, according to police.

Gamaliel Perez-Hernandez, of Norwalk, was charged with second-degree forgery in connection with the March 21 incident.

Acting on information that a person was making fraudulent Texas motor vehicle license plates and registration paperwork, a Westport police detective contacted the suspect — later identified as Perez-Hernandez — to inquire about making a purchase.

Perez-Hernandez agreed to make the counterfeit materials, according to the report, and set up a meeting with the undercover detective on March 21 to complete the sale.

When Perez-Hernandez arrived for the arranged meeting, police said he had fake license plates and registration documents in his possession.

He was placed under arrest and formally charged.

He was released after posting $1,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned March 30 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
