WESTPORT — A Trumbull man, who police said was driving at an “extremely slow speed” on Post Road East, has been charged with drunken driving.
Anthony Cimmino, 22, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in connection with the April 12 incident.
According to the report, an officer on patrol pulled alongside a slow-moving vehicle, which had activated emergency flashers, to ask the driver — later identified as Cimmino — if there was a problem. As the vehicle pulled away, the officer saw that a female was left behind on the sidewalk, who when asked, replied that she was OK, according to the report.
But en route to another call, the officer noticed the vehicle in question had pulled into a Post Road East parking lot. Concerned about a possible domestic dispute, according to the report, the officer pulled over to engage Cimmino in conversation.
In talking with Cimmino, the officer determined there was no domestic issue but reported Cimmino was unsteady on his feet, was slurring his speech and smelled of alcohol, police said.
Cimmino was administered a field sobriety test and failed to perform it to standard, police said.
He was taken to Police Department headquarters and was formally charged. He was released after posting $500 bond and was scheduled to have been arraigned April 21 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
