WESTPORT — A 28-year-old man, who police said repeatedly tried to re-enter a local restaurant after being told to leave because of disruptive and intoxicated behavior, has been charged with criminal trespassing.
Brandon Beller, of Westport, was charged with first-degree criminal trespassing in connection with the New Year’s Eve incident.
Officer were dispatched about 10:45 p.m. Dec. 31 to Viva Zapata on Riverside Avenue, according to the police report, where a patron — identified as Beller — was causing a disturbance.
Beller, described as intoxicated and disruptive, had been asked by the manager to leave the restaurant, but refused until officers arrived, police said.
Although police said Beller initially was “uncooperative,” he eventually agreed to accept a ride to the Saugatuck Railroad Station.
After being dropped off at the depot, police saw Beller a short time later walking back toward Viva Zapata. At that point, he was warned that he would face arrest if he returned, according to the report.
Although Beller then began walking away from the restaurant, he circled to the back of the business, climbed a fence and re-entered the property, police said.
Officers were waiting there, and Beller was immediately arrested.
Beller was released on a promise to appear for arraignment Jan. 9 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
