WESTPORT–A Waterbury man who allegedly drove recklessly through Westport while fleeing Stamford police last spring was arrested by Westport police on Friday, Nov. 7, after appearing in federal court in Hartford on an unrelated matter, town police said.
Marcus Anthony Simms, 27, was wanted by police from Stamford and other agencies when a Westport officer spotted him driving a red Audi S5 south on Wilton Road near the Newtown Turnpike on May 31. Officers signaled Simms to stop, “however the operator disregarded that signal, driving recklessly to avoid them while continuing south onto the Merritt Parkway,” Westport police said in a release.
Simms was arrested after crashing on Main Avenue in Norwalk, Westport police said. Officers from Connecticut State Police Troop G arrested him on numerous charges, including first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, driving in the wrong lane, disregarding police attempts to stop him and resisting arrest, state court records show.
Simms was released at that time on $150,000 bond and is due in Stamford Superior Court on those charges tomorrow, Nov. 13.
Upon his arrest by Westport on Friday, he was charged with reckless driving and engaging police in pursuit. He was released on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on the Westport charges in the Stamford court on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
