WESTPORT – There were no serious injuries early Sunday morning after an SUV slammed into a tow truck at an accident scene on I-95 North.

The incident occurred between Exits 18 and 19. The Westport Fire Department reported that it was responding to a single vehicle crash to provide scene protection when a second collision occurred “just a few feet” behind an engine.

An SUV towing a trailer crashed into a tow truck at high speed, causing significant damage to both vehicles. The occupants of both vehicles were able to exit afterwards.

Connecticut’s “Move Over” law requires that drivers must slow to a reasonable speed and move over if possible on multilane roads when they spot a vehicle pulled over to the side of the road. The law was first implemented in 2009 and applied only to emergency vehicles, but was amended in 2017 to apply to all stopped vehicles.
