WESTPORT — Firefighters rescued a driver trapped in a vehicle that crashed Friday afternoon on the Merritt Parkway.
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene of the single-vehicle accident, between the parkway’s southbound exits 41 and 40, shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, according to the fire report.
The vehicle struck the highway’s median guardrail, causing extensive damage to the driver’s side, which required firefighters to use hydraulic tools to extricate the driver, the report said. The driver was transported by Westport EMS to a hospital. Information about how serious any injuries may have been was not immediately available.
