WESTPORT — Fire in a storefront at a Post Road East commercial building early Saturday was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
The alarm was triggered shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday.
The shift commander arriving on scene reported smoke was visible in a storefront of the retail/office building at 246 Post Road East, and the response was upgraded to “structure fire,” according to the report by Assistant Chief Philip Hessberger.
The first two fire companies arriving at the building located the fire and were able to douse it quickly.
An extensive search of the building found no additional flames, the fire report said, and the building subsequently was cleared of smoke.
Initially, two engine companies, a truck company and the shift commander were dispatched to the scene. They were joined by seven engines, a truck, a rescue vehicle and five command and safety officers.
Mutual aid during the incident was provided by fire crews from Wilton, Norwalk, and Fairfield, with additional assistance by Westport police and EMS.
