WESTPORT — A woman was struck by a car while trying to cross busy Post Road East downtown Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses said the woman was in the road’s crosswalk near the Church Lane intersection when she was struck shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.
She was screaming in pain before being taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The injuries “were significant but not life threatening,” according to Lieut. Anthony Prezioso, police spokesman.
No charges had been filed as of Thursday afternoon, he said, but the accident remains under investigation.
The road, which had been closed between Parker Harding Plaza and Imperial Avenue for the on-site investigation, was reopened about an hour later, according to an emergency alert.

The downhill stretch of Post Rd from Compo to the bridge has become a raceway in the early AM hours. “I-95 north.”
I believe the crosswalk there is cotrolled by a traffic light.
It is controlled by a light – which begs the question: what actually happened there?
