WESTPORT — The 24-year-old driver of a car stopped by police while driving the wrong way on Main Street last week has been charged with driving under the influence.

Inva Vuthaj, a Norwlk resident, was charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and also one count of driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

The incident took place last Thursday at about 11:55 p.m. when an officer spotted a car traveling the wrong way on the one-way section of Main Street, police said.

After pulling over the car and speaking with the driver, identified as Vuthaj, the officer reportedly smelled alcohol coming from inside the vehicle and also “noted that she had slurred speech and glassy red eyes,” according to the report.

Vuthaj refused to cooperate when the officer attempted to conduct a field sobriety test, police said, so she was placed under arrest.

She was brought to Police Department headquarters, where police said she also refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test for possible intoxication.

Vuthaj was released after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Oct. 12 at Superior Court in Stamford.
