WESTPORT–Four New York City residents allegedly shoplifted a fragrance from Ulta Beauty, but Westport police officers were quickly on the scent.
The suspects were stopped on Oct. 8 heading south on the Sherwood Island Connector after staff at the cosmetics store at 1365 Post Road East reported seeing one of the men take an item from a display and hide it in a satchel he was carrying. The man then left with the three others, whom he also had come in with.
When they were stopped, the vehicle they were in “was found to contain several bottles of fragrances labeled as testers, assorted new cosmetics and new clothing with tags,” police said in a statement. The Ulta staff was able to confirm that one of the fragrance bottles, valued at $70, was taken from the store’s shelves in the incident, police said. Police seized other items for further investigation.
Surveillance video allegedly showed one of the men, Diomede Rodriguez-Flores, 24, of Manhattan, taking the bottle. He was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on $200 bail.
The other suspects, all from Queens, were Jose Escorche, 21; Freycker Uviedo-Fernandez, 19; and Nestor Daboin-Rosales, 26. They all were charged with sixth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny and released without bail.
All four are scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Stamford next Wednesday.
