WESTPORT–A Bronx man driving an allegedly stolen Kia Forte through Westport on Monday morning was arrested after a police license plate reader flagged the vehicle’s status to an officer, police said

Tayquon Underhill, 24, was driving the Kia east on Post Road West near Lincoln Street when he was stopped at 5:18 a.m., police said. The car had been reported stolen from East Haven, Conn., a day earlier, town police said in an announcement.

Underhill told police that the car belonged to an acquaintance. But the alleged theft was not his only problem. A computer check allegedly showed that his license was suspended, police said.

Underhill was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, first offense, a felony, and operating under suspension. He is being held on $5,000 bond and is due in Superior Court in Stamford on Oct. 17, according to court records.

He is also due in Superior Court in Bridgeport on Sept. 17 to face a charge of third-degree larceny, a felony, from a May 16, 2023 incident in New Haven and two subsequent charges of first-degree failure to appear in court, also felonies. Those charges were added on Nov. 1, 2023 and Sept. 18, 2024, court records show.
