WESTPORT — A Bridgeport man has been charged with shoplifting grooming products from the CVS Pharmacy on Post Road East.

Vincent Givens, 56, was charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny in connection with the incident.

On Aug. 19, police were alerted that a shoplifting had occurred shortly after 1 p.m. at the pharmacy. Store personnel told police that a man was observed putting “hair-trimming products into a backpack and eventually leave without paying for any of the items,” according to the police report.

The suspect left the scene in a gray car driven by another man, heading east. But when the car was spotted by an officer, the driver refused to pull over, police said. The pursuit was broken off for safety reasons, according to the report.

After coordinating with another area police department, the investigating officer was able to identify the suspect as Vincent Givens.

Givens was taken into custody Sunday by Bridgeport officers and turned over to Westport police.

He was formally charged and held on $25,000 bond. He was taken Tuesday for arraignment at Superior Court in Stamford.
