WESTPORT — Fire that erupted in the attic of a Warnock Drive home Friday night was extinguished by firefighters before spreading.

Occupants had left the house without injury when the  blaze was reported shortly after 9:45 p.m. Friday, according to the report by Assistant Fire Chief Brian Meadows.

Four engines, a truck and the shift commander were initially dispatched on the call.

Firefighters arriving at the scene reported flames were visible along the building’s eaves and also were detected in the attic.

A hose was used inside the house to prevent fire from spreading through the interior, while another crew outside the structure doused flames burning though the roof.

Firefighters were able to limit most of the fire damage to the front of the attic and an exterior corner of the structure, according to the report.

Crews also ventilated the structure to limit smoke damage, and helped salvage personal possessions.

No injuries were reported.

Mutual aid at Warnock Drive was provided by Norwalk firefighters and the Rapid Intervention Team. Westport police and EMS personnel also were at the scene.

Fire crews from Fairfield, Wilton and Norwalk provided backup coverage at Westport fire stations while local firefighters were deployed at the fire scene, which was cleared about 1 a.m. Saturday.

Cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
