WESTPORT — An Arkansas woman was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol after she was involved in an accident on Wilton Road last week.

Desiree Walton, 54, of Bentonville, Ark., faces the charge in the wake of the two-car crash shortly before 7:30 p.m. May 28.

The officer dispatched to the accident scene on Wilton Road at Newtown Turnpike said that one of the drivers — identified as Desiree Walton — appeared to be unsteady on her feet and exuded “a strong odor of alcohol,” according to the report.

Walton failed to perform a field sobriety test to standard, police said, and was taken into custody.

At Police Department headquarters, she refused to take an alcohol breath test, police said, and was formally charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Walton was released after posting $500 bond, and was scheduled to have been arraigned June 3 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
