Editor’s note: The following statement was issued by Mark Friedman , chairman of the Westport Democratic Town Committee, in the aftermath of Tuesday’s elections.

Westport made a statement (Tuesday) by electing all of the Democratic candidates by a wide margin.

Westport voted in favor of gun violence prevention, reproductive rights and the freedom to vote early.

Moreover, Westport endorsed a vision of our town, state and country imbued with optimism, opportunity and light, rejecting the gloom and doom narrative pushed elsewhere.

As we continue to monitor results from around the country, the Westport DTC celebrates the hard work, vision and patriotism of all who helped our Democratic candidates this election cycle.

We send heartfelt gratitude to all of our volunteers, our committee chairs, the officer team, and external groups, including the Resisters and Democratic Women of Westport.

We thank our remarkable candidates for their hard work, their moral compasses and their commitment to public service. Moreover, we thank our voters, who by performing their civic duty, reinforced democracy itself.

The DTC is grateful for the thousands of Westporters who came together (Tuesday) around our shared values.

To echo John F. Kennedy, we will not accomplish all that we wish in the next hundred days, or even in the next thousand. But together, let us begin.
