Appreciation for Incumbent RTM-9 Member

To the Editor:

Although my memory is usually reliable, I can’t recall when it was that I first met Sebastian (Sal)
Liccione, the incumbent candidate for Westport’s RTM District 9. He’s one of those people that I
feel like I’ve known forever.

In 45 years from my view of both sides of the municipal counter, I have never known an RTM
representative so involved with every aspect of their district and the workings of our Town as is
Sal. He is irrefutably a force of nature.

Recently I had the opportunity to witness, firsthand, Sal’s unique ability to bring people together
for the common good.

One Friday afternoon he called me to announce, “There’s a meeting tonight at 6:45. Here’s the
address.”

In the wake of public (concern) about the worsening flooding of Deadman’s Brook, Sal had organized a
meeting of concerned District 9 property owners. As an example of Sal’s powers of persuasion,
even candidate for first selectman State Rep. Jonathan Steinberg attended, despite the very short notice.
In a matter of hours, thanks in major part to Sal’s efforts, a neighborhood organization was born,
assisted by pro bono professional guidance and with the support of our State Representative.
Sal’s relentless promotion of downtown Westport’s merchants, restaurants, businesses, and
special events is well known to all. With an energy reminiscent of a hummingbird, he seems to
be everywhere at once.

Oh, and by the way — just like Sal Liccione’s community service, I’m writing this letter without
an agenda as I don’t live in District 9. If I did, it would be an honor to vote for Sebastian (Sal)
Liccione for the RTM.

Very truly yours,
Gloria Gouveia

Praise for Tooker & Moore

To The Editor:

Over the last few years, the public and I have had the opportunity to observe and evaluate the perspectives and plans of Jen Tooker and Andrea Moore — who are running for the selectman’s office. They have earned my confidence and will receive my vote.

As a lifelong Westport resident, mother, wife, and real estate agent, Westport, to me, is more than just a town — it’s my family history.

Westport has markedly evolved from the village my grandparents first bought a home in over a hundred years ago — however, they would still recognize it and love the vibrant community it has become.

As a real estate agent, I believe we need the strong leadership the Tooker /Moore ticket will deliver to keep our real estate market vibrant — with steady mill rates, and skilled management of taxpayer resources.

While those things are important to me as a business person — as a mother, whose daughter attends Westport Public Schools, I trust Tooker/Moore to make our schools a healthier place to be, and keep them ranked as some of the best in the country.

Jen Tooker and Andrea Moore possess the honesty, fairness, and thoughtfulness to address the multitude of issues our town faces as we continue to move into a better future.

I urge your readers to examine Tooker/Moore’s positions and learn more about all they have done — and plan to do — for Westport.

Regards,

Former BOE Member Praises Steinberg & Savin

To The Editor:

Jonathan Steinberg and Candice Savin have the experience, strength and integrity to lead our community and make Westport better than ever.

As the Chair of the Public Health Committee in the legislature, Jonathan helped guide our state through the pandemic and championed policies to protect the health of our students. Candice Savin’s leadership of the Board of Education was steadfast throughout her term, restoring trust and stability amongst the entire community. She led the Board through the pandemic and kept our students and faculty safe while keeping the doors of learning open.

I have personally worked with Candice on the TEAM Westport schools’ group and have seen firsthand her unwavering dedication to the success of every child. Most importantly, Jonathan and Candice share my values. This is the right team to lead Westport now.

Brett Aronow

Current BOE Member for Steinberg/Savin

Letter to the Editor,

I urge all Westporters to get out and vote -– and elect Jonathan Steinberg and Candice Savin as our First and Second Selectmen.

Westport needs selectmen who get things done. I support Jonathan Steinberg and Candice Savin because they are leaders with demonstrable achievements in governance.

Over years of local and state public service, Jonathan has been instrumental in enacting legislation promoting public health and vaccines as well as protecting our environment through investment in renewable energy. Candice successfully steered the school district through the pandemic, keeping staff and students safe and the doors open. I trust them to do what’s right for all Westporters.

There is also the question of values, and there are clear differences between our teams of candidates.

Jonathan and Candice have advocated for mask wearing in all indoor locations -– even though that contravenes what our local gyms want; Ms Tooker and Ms Moore refused to comment one way or the other. Jonathan and Candice have vocally defended our world class educators as they work to determine how the District can better serve each of our students; Ms Tooker instead defended an anonymous website that makes bogus claims that our teachers are bigoted and that their work is secretive –- despite all the meetings being open to (and regularly attended by) the public.

Jonathan and Candice have the courage of their convictions, have the courage to identify with their party (Democrat), have the courage to risk taking stands.

Jonathan and Candice have the vision, values, and records of success to lead Westport. Please vote for them on November 2.

Sincerely,

Lee Goldstein

Another Current BOE Member for Steinberg & Savin

To the Editor:

I write to encourage everyone to vote for Jonathan Steinberg and Candice Savin in the Westport Board of Selectmen election.

Over the years, I’ve witnessed Jonathan and Candice in action and what I respect most is the courage and clarity of their convictions.

Jonathan fearlessly championed sound vaccine policy in the face of vocal and organized opposition, and Candice steered the school district through the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, navigating a complex and polarizing debate that led to a successful return to school.

Both Jonathan and Candice have consistently been clear and unapologetic about their values, especially with regard to diversity, equity, and inclusion. When members of our community are “othered” or when positive work is called into question, they speak up in defense without hesitation, ambiguity, or fear.

This is the leadership our town needs and deserves. Join me and vote for Steinberg and Savin on November 2nd!

Former BOE Chair Endorses Steinberg & Savin

To The Editor:

It is hard to imagine someone more qualified to be our First Selectman than Jonathan Steinberg. He has unparalleled experience in both public service and business –- and he can bring his tremendous network in the state forward to help solve issues in Westport like traffic. Jonathan has been a leader for the state during the pandemic, and his vision and determination to revitalize our downtown and fix our aging school buildings will make a real difference.

Jonathan’s first decision was a brilliant one: choosing Candice Savin as his running mate. In challenging times, she has had an enormously positive impact on Westport’s students. She has made the proactive maintenance of the schools front and center, and she has led the safe reopening of the district during the pandemic.

Together Jonathan and Candice know all of the issues that move our town and will make Westport better than ever.
