To the editor:
I write to encourage all Westporters to cast their ballots for Ceci Maher for state Senate and Jonathan Steinberg for state representative on Line A on Nov. 5.
Westport has been fortunate to have such effective legislators representing our interests in the legislature. We should never take that for granted.
Ceci, in a remarkably short time, has distinguished herself as a thought leader and reformer in the Senate. She is chair of the Children’s Committee and has led on critical issues ranging from education to social services to energy policy. She is a staunch proponent of reproductive freedom and environmental sustainability.
Jonathan, who has represented Westport for the past 14 years, has been a leader on public health policy and now chairs the Energy & Technology Committee, which will have to navigate the difficult path to secure our state’s energy future. He has also been a vocal advocate for environmental and reproductive rights issues, and has been the voice of reason on affordable housing legislation.
Both Ceci and Jonathan represent Westport’s values, go out of their ways to work across the aisle to find common ground, and have developed key relationships with influencers and decision-makers both in government and the private sector.
Lastly, regarding an issue close to my heart, I know I can always count on both of these determined legislators to champion efforts to protect all citizens from gun violence with sensible gun reforms.
Westporters have high expectations for their elected officials, rightfully so. Jonathan and Ceci consistently achieve on behalf of our town and are more than worthy to be returned to Hartford to carry on their work.
Please remember to vote on Nov. 5, and vote for Ceci Maher and Jonathan Steinberg.
Melissa Kane, board chair of Connecticut Against Gun Violence
