WESTPORT — Monsignor Andrew G. Varga, the pastor of St. Luke Church for the last 25 years, died Monday. He was 69.

Varga, who was ordained a priest in 1978, also was a territorial vicar of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeport and a member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors.

“Monsignor Varga had an abiding love and appreciation for the people of his parish and a generous heart toward all those in need and will be deeply missed. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Msgr. Varga and for the consolation of his family,” Bishop Frank J. Caggiano said in an announcement on the diocesan website.

The St. Luke Church congregation, announcing their pastor’s death “with heavy hearts” on the parish website, said, “We celebrate and cherish the memory of our beloved pastor, Monsignor Andy.”

The services will take place in St. Luke Church, 49 Turkey Hill Road North. They also will be live-streamed via the church website.
