Marie C. “Tina” Jennings-Kamberg, 98, died on April 15, 2023, in her home at the Glenridge Retirement Center in Sarasota, Fla., where she was a legacy member, and recently contributed to the newly completed addition, the Kamberg Wellness Center.
Tina came to the United States from Venice, Italy, in 1948 as a war bride.
Tina established and ran a very popular and successful children’s clothing store for many years, the Cortina Shop in Ridgefield, and later met and married Sereno Jennings of Westport, where they eventually settled.
They spent the winters in the Florida Keys in Islamorada, and with her husband’s help, they built the first tennis club, “The Net,” in the Keys, later moving to the mainland in 1983.
After her second husband’s passing, she met a United Nations diplomat, Hans W. Kamberg, on a flight to New York and, because of their European connection, became close friends and married shortly thereafter.
Tina graduated from the Accademia di Educazione Fisica in Orvieto, Italy, where she learned to love sports, particularly tennis. She was a past member of the Prestancia Club and then a member and resident of the Oaks Club in Osprey, Fla., where she enjoyed golf and tennis.
Tina attended the Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota and was a member of Greens Farms Church in Westport.
Tina is survived by her step-grandchildren, Peter Jennings and Melanie St. Raymond of Wilton, Sharon Landowne (Gary) of Exeter, N.H., and Karen Jennings of Fairfield; a former daughter-in-law, Ruth Jennings of Westport; a stepdaughter Astrid Kamberg Salen (Abe) in California and their children. In addition, she is survived by three step great-grandchildren, Katelin Flemming and husband Shawn, Emily Jennings and Justin Landowne, as well as two step great-great-granddaughters, Sophie and Chelsea Flemming.
There will be no visitation and a graveside service will be private at the Greens Farms Upper Cemetery in Westport on Friday, April 28. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Resurrection House, a faith-based resource center for the homeless, 507 Kumquat Court, Sarasota, FL 34230.
