Following is the obituary for HILARY GIBSON, submitted for her family by the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Hilary Lauren Wechsler Gibson, 66, of Weston, passed away Sept. 7, 2024, in Weston.

Hilary was born at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City to Lewis S. Wechsler and Joan E. Wechsler. She graduated from W.C. Mepham High School in Merrick/Bellmore, Long Island, in 1975, and went on to earn a B.A. degree from Tufts University in 1979 and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School in 1982. 

Hilary worked in the financial services industry as a chief of staff at Marine Midland, Lehman Brothers, CS First Boston and Credit Suisse Private Banking after graduation until 1998, when she retired to move to Atlanta with her husband, William, and focus her attention on her son, Edward (Ted).  

She was an avid long-distance bike rider, hiker and sailor, who enjoyed life to the fullest. After living in the Netherlands while her husband was with ING, Hilary and the family returned to Westport in fall 2004, where, among other activities, she was the head of education at the Westport Historical Society.

 Hilary is survived by her husband William, of Weston, and her son Edward, of New York City. Other family members who survive Hilary include her cousins, RuthAnn Stafford, of Boseman, Mont., and Toby Meshberg, of Fairfield, and her brother, Zachary Wechsler, of Torrance, Calif. She was predeceased by her parents.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m., at Temple Shalom, 259 Richards Ave., Norwalk. Burial will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main St. Shiva will be observed at the home of William Gibson in Weston on Sept. 12, after the interment, until 8 p.m. For more information, to join a livestream or to share a condolence message, visit www.greensfuneralhome.com.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Hilary’s memory.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. James Harding and the entire staff at MSK-Westchester. Their help, warmth and compassion were a tremendous asset to Hilary in this struggle.

Hilary was a tremendous spirit, wonderful friend, fun partner and great mom. We will all recall bike rides, trekking in the Himalayas, sailing in the Caribbean, skiing in the East and West; her joy of exploring was infectious, and her pleasure was tangible. She will be missed tremendously.
